The Great Falls Police Department is conducting an internal investigation into its handling of two requests for help in the hours before a May 6 death, City Manager Greg Doyon said Tuesday.
“They are reviewing that and looking at it,” Doyon said. “Once (Police Chief Corky Grove) prepares that report, he’ll present it and there will be … a public response.”
Questions arose after the death of 30-year-old Jerod Williams in the early morning hours of May 6, and the subsequent arrest of 29-year-old Jaydee Haagenson on a charge of murder.
Haagenson’s father and aunt each called police asking officers to check on Haagenson hours before police say he strangled Williams.
Both relatives reported Haagenson was drinking in violation of his parole terms, and becoming agitated. A dispatcher denied the aunt’s request for officer assistance and a supervising officer denied the father’s request.
Police spokesman Sgt. Jeff Newton initially said there was no internal investigation, then said last week that police would not comment further on the response to the calls.

A man who shook his infant child was sentenced to two years under the supervision of the Department of Corrections in a Cascade County District Court hearing Thursday.
Levi Kramlich, 21, was also ordered to spend three additional years on probation for the charge of assault on a minor, a felony.
Judge Thomas McKittrick said he would recommend the Department of Corrections place Kramlich in a prerelease center for the two-year sentence.
Kramlich’s defense attorney asked for a lighter sentence, arguing that he is young and has no previous criminal record.
